The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke

 

영국 화가 리처드 대드 (Richard Dadd) 작품

1855 부터 1864년 까지 그린 작품이지만 미완성.

화가는 그의 정신병이 시작되기 전부터  Fairy painting(요정 그림) 을 시작했는데  Fairy painting은 요정과 동화 설정의

 페인팅과 일러스트레이션의 장르로 극도의 세부묘사가 특징이라고 한다.

이 그림 제목을 딴 노래가 있으니

바로 Queen의 동명의 노래다.

그림보다 먼저 퀸의 이 노래를 듣고  재미있고 신나고 복잡한 느낌을 받아 가사를 찾다보니

이 노래가 나오게 된 배경인 화가의  그림을 알게 되었다.

프레디 머큐리가 이 그림을 보고 영감을 받아 만들었다는데 복잡하고 이해하기 힘든 그림 느낌 그대로 

신비스럽고  신나고 환상적인

세계를  노래에 휘몰아치듯 불어넣는다.

퀸의 다른 어떤 노래보다 이 곡이 프레디의 천재성을 보여준다는 생각이다.

이 노래는 퀸이1974년 3월 31일 퀸이 rainbow 무대에서 공연한 것을 마지막으로  어디서도 기 힘들다고 하는데

There's a thief and a dragonfly trumpeter - he's my hero

Fairy dandy tickling the fancy of his lady friend

The nymph in yellow "can we see the master-stroke"

What a quaere fellow

 

Soldier, sailor, tinker, tailor, ploughboy

Waiting to hear the sound

And the arch-magician presides

He is the leader

Oberon and titania watched by a harridan

Mab is the queen and there's a good apothecary-man

Come to say hello

Fairy dandy tickling the fancy of his lady friend
